5th International Conference on Family Law held in Mostar

The Faculty of Law, „Džemal Bijedić“ University of Mostar was the organiser of the 5th International Conference on Family Law held on March 31st and April 1st, 2017 in Mostar. This's years theme was titled „The Reflections of the European Court of Human Rights Case-Law in National Family Laws“. Legal experts, practitioners and scholars from law facultes in Zagreb, Rijeka, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, and public faculties in BiH gathered to present their papers and discuss the most recent developments in the ECHR case-law related to various family law issues. The presentations covered such topics as the right to trial within a reasonable time, same sex relationships, parental use of corporal punishment, domestic violence, adoption, termination of pregnancy, the problem of missing babies in Serbia, transgender rights, family relationships and separation from children, surogacy in international private law, and social function of the ECHR judgments. 

The Conference has brought together leading scolars of the regional law faculities, as well as the judges of the municipal courts in Herzegovina and social workers from Mostar to discuss the issues of contemporary significance. The organisers hope that this traditional scientific event will continue to foster cooperation between acedemia and legal practice in the region.
